The Added Things We Tell You

What to buy. When to buy it. How much to own. And - perhaps most importantly - when to sell.

That's the complete picture. And that's what Zen Alpha Portfolio delivers every month.

What Most Services Tell You

"Here's a list of tickers that we like. Do with them as you like."

That's not Portfolio Management - it's a list of tickers, with perhaps a brief write-up on each.

You've Done Your Homework. Now Put It to Work.

Whether you've been investing for decades or you're just getting serious about building wealth, you already know that picking stocks isn't enough. The real challenge is managing a portfolio - staying disciplined when markets get chaotic, knowing when to hold and when to raise cash, and making sure your exposure to any one sector or stock doesn't blow up your portfolio.

That's How We Earn Our Keep

That's exactly what professional portfolio managers get paid to figure out. Until now, that level of discipline and rigor wasn't available to individual investors — at least not at a price that made sense.

The Zen Alpha Portfolio changes that.

Institutional-Grade Analysis. Individual Investor Price.

Zen Alpha is built on 30 years of professional buy-side experience, including a tenure as Head of Equity Trading at Northern Trust - one of the largest asset managers in the world.

The ZenRank Methodology

The system behind it - the ZenRank methodology - starts with a universe of more than 4,000 U.S.-listed stocks, applying the same quality filters used by S&P indices to narrow the field to the most investable names. Then our own rigorous ranking system scores every remaining stock across five dimensions: Quality, Value, Momentum, Growth, and Risk.

Results Are What Counts

The result is a single, objective ranking that removes emotion from the equation entirely.

No gut feelings. No hot tips. No narratives. Just data.

A Method With a 17-Year Track Record

Since January 2009, the ZenRank model portfolios have returned 17.2% a year, on average, published and time-stamped every week through December 2025. Over the same period, the S&P 500 returned about 13.5% a year. Put in dollar terms, $10,000 following the models would have grown to roughly $148,500 - versus about $66,800 in the index.

I Believe In Full Transparency

Three things you should know about my performance history. It is a model record, not audited real-money returns — the portfolios are published live each week, but they are not brokerage statements. It is an average across 13 separate model portfolios, so no single subscriber earns exactly 17.2%. And it is measured before costs - your own return depends on commissions, taxes, and timing.

My Methodology Works

My record stands behind the method, not any particular portfolio. Zen Alpha Portfolio launched in March 2025, so it has more than a year of its own history. But it's the long track record of my methodology that allows you to trust the system that drives the historical returns.

What You Get Every Week

  • The Live Portfolio - See exactly what the system owns — with full position sizing. Not just a list of names, but a complete, ready-to-follow portfolio with allocations sized by the model. You always know how much to put into each position, not just which ones to own.
  • The Watchlist - The top 10 rising stars the system is tracking closely — strong buy-rated stocks that are building momentum but haven't yet cleared all the portfolio hurdles. Think of it as a first look at tomorrow's holdings. The portfolio is what the system owns; the Watchlist is what it's watching.
  • The Market Dashboard - Six charts that tell you exactly where the market stands right now — drawdowns, moving averages, yield curve, inflation, credit spreads, and market breadth. One page. Complete picture.
  • The Market Regime - Markets cycle between Bull, Bear, and Sideways conditions — and the right strategy is different for each. Every issue tells you which regime we're in and why, so your portfolio is always positioned for the environment that actually exists, not the one you're hoping for.
  • Deep Dives - Each month, one or two stocks get the full treatment — a detailed, plain-English analysis of the business, the financials, the risks, and why the system rates it the way it does. These are the kind of reports institutional analysts produce for fund managers. You get them for the cost of a monthly dinner.
  • Macro & Market Commentary - What's driving markets right now, what to watch for next, and how current conditions affect the portfolio. Context you can actually use.

The Part Most Services Get Wrong - Selling

Buying is the easy part. Every newsletter has a buy list.

What separates serious investors from the rest is knowing **when to get out** — before a small loss becomes a big one, or before a great winner starts giving it all back.

Zen Alpha Portfolio builds sell discipline directly into the system. Every position has a rationale, and when that rationale changes — when the data shifts — the model tells you. No second-guessing. No holding and hoping.

Built for Investors Who Want to Think, Not Just Follow

Zen Alpha Portfolio isn't a black box you follow blindly. Every recommendation comes with the reasoning behind it, so you can understand *why* the system is making the moves it makes — and apply that thinking to your own decisions.

Many subscribers don't mirror the portfolio at all. They use the ZenRank scores, the Watchlist, and the market analysis to inform their own investment process. The system is flexible enough to work both ways.
