This table shows the performance of various asset classes over the last year.  One way to use this information is to evaluate the performance of your own investment portfolio.  Compare your stocks, bonds, REITs, and gold holdings to their benchmarks, to see how you did on a relative basis.  If your performance was significantly different from the benchmark, it merits further investigation.
